Construction clients often build in social value targets on construction projects which are delivered through
Employment & Skills Plans (ESPs)
In order to meet the targets, main contractors and their supply chains must engage local people in employment and training. Young apprentices play a vital role in addressing skills gaps and helping to bring new talent into the sector, providing social and economic value.
ESPs typically combine the following:
- Apprenticeships;
- Employment and training initiatives linked to initial and ongoing recruitment;
- Training and work experience for younger people, including those who are Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET);
- Maximising local labour;
- Curriculum and careers support activities with local schools, college & Universities;
- Graduate employment;
- Workforce development.
